Mike Brakey is regarded as the foremost expert on Ohio’s energy environment and FirstEnergy-Ohio rates. He is a frequent speaker on energy issues and is often consulted by the media on Ohio energy topics.
Mike is an engineer who developed an expert-level understanding of Ohio’s energy rates and regulations as energy management director and facilities engineering director at Johnson Rubber, a large Ohio polymer manufacturer. In his 22 years at Johnson Rubber Company, Mike directed the development and implementation of manufacturing strategies that led to energy cost reductions in excess of $20 million.
Mike founded Brakey Energy in 1999. He holds 7 worldwide patents for the design of more efficient heat exchangers for marine applications. He also has developed proprietary rate analysis software for helping Brakey Energy clients evaluate and reduce their energy costs.
Mike holds a B.S. in engineering physics from the University of Maine and an E.M.B.A. from Baldwin-Wallace College. In 2013, the University of Maine’s prestigious Francis Crowe Society recognized Mike as a Distinguished Engineer.
