We came into contact with a company who was doing off-peak metal melting.  Due to a tremendous amount of variability and spikes in their electric load, the alternative generation supplier they contacted was unwilling to quote them a price. They therefore were stuck on the default Standard Service Offer generation price, and assumed they could do no better.

We reached out to another Ohio utility to see if they would be interested in servicing their load, which we believed was very attractive despite its variability; it ran primarily off-peak where electricity prices are substantially lower. After multiple rounds of negotiation, we were able to secure a generation price approximately 20% below the default Standard Service Offer.
